Four teams from Region 9 were in action Friday. Desert Hills traveled north to Tooele. Hurricane and Cedar are participating in the 2A-3A Preview in Richfield. Dixie traveled a short distance south to Mesquite for the Bulldog Invitational. Below are game summaries of Friday’s action:

Desert Hills 75, Olympus 57

The Lady Thunder captured a win against 4A Olympus in their first game of the Tooele County Classic Friday night.

desert-hills-logo“We played our best ball offensively all season,” said Desert Hills head coach Ron Denos. “We moved the ball well and got good looks in our offense. Nine separate players scored tonight.”

Desert Hills raced out to a 48-27 halftime advantage. In the second half, Olympus put a minor dent in the Thunder lead by hitting their free throws.

“We had a lot of fouls in the second half,” said Denos. “We got playing time for several players and we ended up putting them at the line often in the second half.”

Individually for the Lady Thunder, Ashley Beckstrand led the team with 26 points and four steals. Elly Williams had 15 points and seven rebounds. Morgan Myers led the team with five assists and also had three steals.

The Thunder improve to 6-3. They will play twice Saturday. Their first game against Bear River is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. At 1:30 p.m, they will play Morgan. Olympus falls to 2-5.

Hurricane 46, Manti 21

The Lady Tigers jumped out early and then continued to distance themselves from Manti with each quarter.

Mojave 45, Dixie 41

Dixie traveled to Mesquite for the Lady Bulldog Invitational. The Lady Flyers dug themselves a big hole in the first quarter, looking at a 17-3 deficit. They slowly climbed back into the game behind their press.
