Region 9 wrestling: Late forfeits give Warriors win at PV

ST. GEORGE – As far as matches go, it was as close as it could get – until we got to the big boys.

snow-canyon-logopine-view-logoPine View and Snow Canyon squared off in Region 9’s first dual meet of the season and the match was tied at 30-30 until late in the meet. The Warriors came away with the team victory by just having a wrestler at the 195, 220 and 285-pound weights as Pine View had no athletes in those divisions.

Before the last three matches, it was back and forth between the two schools. Pine View got victories from Braxton Barrett (106) and Riley Helt (113), with Snow Canyon countering with wins by Daxton Edwards (120) and Colton Davis (126).

The Panthers then got two straight wins with Braden Holmes (132) and Ben Worlton (138) taking decisions.

The Warriors’ Christian Case then recorded a pin at 145, but Pine View’s Shadrach Diaz won at 152 and Korey Barlow got a pin at 160 to put the Panthers in command.

Snow Canyon needed two pins to even the match and that’s exactly what the Warriors got as Devon Leavitt (170) and Rhett Boatright (182) both came up with pins to tie the score.

SC’s Tanner Nelsen (195), Chris Stoddard (220) and Tui Kanosh (285) all won by forfeit to seal the match.
