ST. GEORGE – To say folks at Snow Canyon were a little nervous Wednesday night might be a bit of an understatement.

But the all new Warrior coaches and players worked through the nerves and played an excellent second half in a 62-48 win over Enterprise at the Jungle gymnasium.

snow-canyon-logo“Right now, I feel great,” first-year SC head coach Jameson Sorensen said. “Before the game, I was as nervous as can be and I think the players were, too. The first two quarters were pretty bad, with all the nervousness and excitement.”

Snow Canyon trailed 24-20 at the half and, with the exception of Braden Baker, had very little offense to speak of.

“Guys were trying to go one-on-one and iso and we had a lot of bad passes and turnovers,” Sorensen said. “But at halftime we talked and calmed everyone down and then we slowed things down and started running our offense and trusting it and things started to open up for our scorers.”

Baker kept the Warriors in it early and Kameron Webster had a big second half as Snow Canyon outscored the Wolves 42-24 after intermission.

Sorensen praised the play of point guard Christian Sullivan and post players Tyson Deland and Joey Robertson.

“Christian was solid all around,” he said. “He had 10 points and played some great defense as well. And we had good, solid post play with Deland and Robertson. Robertson’s just a sophomore, but he has already shown a lot of poise. He has good footwork and a soft touch inside.”

Baker and Webster led the team with 20 points each.

The Warriors will board a bus at 5:30 a.m. and head for the Bear River Winter Classic, with games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. SC opens with a 6 p.m. contest against North Sanpete Thursday night.
