ST. GEORGE – The St. George Animal Shelter is holding a pet adoption event on “Black Saturday,” just in time to introduce a new family member into the home for the holiday season and beyond.
Just as Black Friday has become synonymous with spending, shopping and waiting in long lines until the big box retailers open, Black Saturday in St. George is all about adopting an animal from the St. George Animal Shelter.
And there’s never been a better time.
As part of the shelter’s Saturday event, they are holding a special where the cost to adopt any shelter pet is only $10. Each animal is vaccinated and either spayed or neutered. In addition, the dogs have been microchipped to make identification easier should they become lost.
An additional advantage to a shelter pet is that many of the animals are already house trained and used to living with families, as numerous dogs and cats are surrendered to shelters because of a change in the family’s situation, not because of the animal’s behavior.
From emotional benefits to physical benefits, pets can impact their owners’ lives in tremendous ways.
Each year, more than 2 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States, yet those numbers decline when these shelter animals find loving homes through adoption. Additionally, when one animal is adopted, it makes room for another that can then be given a second chance.
“We want these animals to find loving families,” St. George Animal Shelter Supervisor April McManus said, adding, “and not just for Christmas, but for the pet’s lifetime.”
At the end of the day, adopting a shelter animal changes that animal’s whole world.
