ST. GEORGE – Dixie had eight seniors lead them to the 2015-16 state championship last February in SUU’s Centrum Arena. And while the Flyers aren’t exactly rebuilding, with three players (including center Richard Guymon) back from that title team, Dixie does have a lot of holes to fill.

Senior Sam Stewart added 11 as Dixie put the game away early, racing out to a 45-21 lead by halftime. Dixie made seven 3-pointers in the game, including one each by Kaden Elzy and Ty Curtis, who both saw playing time on last year’s championship team.

Guymon, who put on a dunk show in the state championship win over Juan Diego, was pretty quiet with five points and 10 rebounds.

The Eagles were led by Sano Oasana’s 11 points.

Dixie will head to Richfield (along with Region 9 mates Cedar, Hurricane, Pine View and Desert Hills) for the 3A Preview tournament Dec. 2-3. The Flyers will face Union Dec. 2 at 2:30 p.m. and Morgan Dec. 3 at 9 a.m.

Region play does not begin until Jan. 11 as the Flyers will begin league play that night with a trip to Hurricane.
