MESQUITE, Nev. — Gather the family and come join the fun and entertainment on Dec. 8, and be a part of the excitement of the Mesquite Parade of Lights canned food drive.
Organizers hope to raise at least 1,000 pounds of canned food that will be donated to the Salvation Army and the Virgin Valley Food Bank, Nick Montoya, director of the city’s athletics and leisure services department, said in a news release.
In order to enter the parade, participants are asked to donate at least 15 pounds of canned food. Applications to participate in the parade are available at City Hall, 10 E. Mesquite Boulevard, and must be turned in by 5 p.m. Nov. 30.
This is the second year for this great event, which is growing in popularity and donations. The community is also asked to bring cans of food to donate to this worthy cause.
“Let’s make this a wonderful Christmas for those in need,” is one of the themes of this heart-warming event.
Donation boxes are set up in the front lobby of the Mesquite Recreation Center, 100 W. Old Mill Road, in Mesquite.
The city’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held directly in the City Hall Amphitheater directly after the parade is over.
