ST. GEORGE — A minor altercation at the Kane County Jail Monday afternoon caused the jail to go into lockdown procedures. Deputies from all parts of the county were called to respond to the jail.

“In one of the sections (of the eight section jail) they were told it was time for them (inmates) to go back into their cells,” Kane County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Alan Alldredge said. “They told them to ‘rack in,’ that’s what they call it, back in their bunks, and there were maybe four or five that for whatever reason were upset about something and were unwilling to do that.”

The inmates were in the day room, Alldredge said, and did not want to go back to their bunks.

Procedure calls for a general call to all deputies to assist with a situation at the jail. That call was put out just after noon.

“One of our sergeants here at the jail was able to talk these guys down and they went back to their bunks. It was a non-issue,” Alldredge said. “Just kind of the price of doing business at the jail … You’ve got a bunch of alpha men locked up together, eventually someone’s going to pop.”

The general call was cancelled about 20 minutes after the dispatch.
