Just before 3 a.m. a passing motorist called the St. George Communications Center reporting a motorcycle crash near the intersection of East Brigham Road and Desert Hills Drive in St. George. The caller said the rider appeared to be seriously injured, St. George Police Capt. Mike Giles said.

As emergency personnel arrived they found the man, in his 20s, unconscious and near the roadway, Giles said. He was transported directly to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George with head injuries from the crash.

“There are significant injuries that are life-threatening,” Giles said, “but we haven’t been updated yet on the man’s condition.”

It appears the rider was traveling east on East Brigham Road and for reasons unknown hit his brakes causing him to lose control of the bike. The bike skidded and at some point the man hit his head during impact.

“It doesn’t appear that the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident,” Giles said.

The Police Department’s accident reconstruction team and investigations division responded to investigate the incident.

Police were did not have an update on the rider’s condition immediately available as this report publishes.

St. George Police and Fire departments and Gold Cross Ambulance tended to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or first responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

How is it the state mandates seatbelts in cars but no helmets for motorcycles? Seems contradictory to me.

Must be some good stuff. Maybe you should try this instead. It’s called a job. It’s what most of us do. You can still pop your pills occasionally, just not while you are at work. We can get through this Dumpster, I know you can do it.

Utah is 1 of 2 states lacking in helmet laws. Utah prides itself on family values and traditional living, but they seem to think it’s okay for a life to be cut short from a preventable cause. Where’s the common sense?

Everyday you see stories, running red lights, no blinkers no helmets when are people going to wake up…make helmets mandatory in Utah..

i used to ride bikes other places i’ve lived. i have no desire to ride here with the way people drive. w/o a helmet would be out of the question. if i ever ride again it would be full gear always–with the weather cooled off there’s no excuse

LOL ! What happened Bob ? did you get tired of falling down and dealing with brain damage !

There are more people sustaining head injuries that are involved in auto crashes than motorcycle accidents every year so I suppose everyone here must also be in favor of making it mandatory to wear a helmet while driving a car as well, and if not then why not? Judging by the reasoning from what I’ve read here, your an idiot if you don’t wear a helmet when driving an auto since your odds of getting in an accident are greater while driving a car based on statistics. So ya let’s make the law simply say “if your traveling faster than say 5 mph, no matter the vehicle, then you must be wearing a helmet”. Problem solved.

Wearing a helmet (or not) is a personal choice. My husband is a biker, but rarely rides here because of the way people drive. When he does, it’s usually on a Sunday morning, and not on the main thoroughfares. He chooses to wear full gear, no matter how hot it is. I am a former ICU nurse, and we all know that a helmet-less rider is a potential organ donor on wheels. The incidence of organ donors was about 50-50 between car accidents and motorcycle wrecks. Wear your helmets and seatbelts and drive defensively, and pray some other idiot doesn’t hit you.

you’re an idiot if you don’t wear a helmet
