Around 4 a.m. Cedar City police officers were dispatched to a home near the corner of W. 1525 South and W. Canyon Drive on reports of a “home invasion stabbing.” (see Ed. Note)

Upon arrival at the home, police found the homeowner holding down the suspect, a news release said. Officers then found the homeowner’s wife in the home with multiple stab wounds to her neck, chest and upper body. She was immediately transported to Cedar City Hospital for emergency treatment, the news release said.

“The last we heard, she was in surgery,” police Sgt. Jerry Womack said. “It didn’t look like anything was going to be life-threatening.”

There were other children in the home at the time but no one else was injured, according to the police news release.

Police identified Cedar City resident Ismael Lopez, 19, as their suspect. He had minor wounds to his hand, was treated at Cedar City Hospital then released. He is currently in the custody of Cedar City Police Department.

At this time, the police have not determined a motive for the stabbing.

“Detectives and Crime Scene technicians are still processing the scene and interviewing witnesses and the suspect,” the release states.

This is a developing story.

Ed. Note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified the incident as taking place on the 1330 block of 1500 West.

u know i can’t help but think, had the husband not held the guy, this would have went totally different. there is a chance especially if the woman was the only person attacked, that this husband could have been accused. not slandering the police b/c its not their fault.. but, you know.. there really have been some innocent spouses that paid it to do twerps.

The address indicated in this article “1330 West block of 1500 South” does not exist in Cedar City. Either the coordinates are wrong, or this incident went down in the middle of I-15 near the south interchange. Perhaps you could give us a real address??
