ST. GEORGE – Imagine strolling through a garden of nearly 50,000 roses of every color, their scent perfuming the air while the soothing sound of cascading water lulls you into a sensation of peace. Imagine a place where you can breathe, a place where body and mind find respite from the everyday. A place to get away and in the process find yourself again. This is Green Valley Spa.
Located just four-and-a-half hours from Salt Lake City in sunny St. George, Green Valley Spa is Southern Utah’s only accommodation with a AAA four-diamond rating, according to the association’s January 2016 report.
The boutique hotel and resort is a leader in the vacation health and wellness industry, providing packages that range from weight loss and active lifestyle to relaxation and natural healing treatments.
The full service resort fulfills all the components of what makes a great destination vacation – or even “staycation” – and then delves deeper, offering guests the kind of worry-free experience that fully allows their body and mind to rest, and in many cases, to heal.
It begins with comfort. Whether you come to Green Valley Spa for the unbeatable access to year-round outdoor activities or for the rejuvenating treatments the spa offers, a comfortable room and a good night’s sleep is important.
Green Valley Spa’s beds are piled with comfort upon comfort, wrapped in 800-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and topped with down pillows and a giant down comforter, resort Director of Marketing Randy Hansen said.
“It’ll be the best night’s sleep you ever had, especially in a hotel,” Hansen said.
Additional hotel amenities like fireplaces, jetted tubs, spa robes and private patios complete the experience … and that is before you even leave the room.
Outside the comfortable rooms, a wealth of activities are available to suit almost any interest.
If venturing into Southern Utah’s famous red rock territory sounds appealing, guests can take advantage of daily guided hikes led by some of the best guides around. Hikers will be able to see nature unspoiled and challenge themselves to reach new heights and tackle unique natural obstacles.
Health enthusiasts can also participate in a myriad of fitness classes, take tennis lessons or enjoy a round of golf on one of St. George’s many year-round courses.
Or guests can relax poolside in one of several indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs.
At the end of the day visitors can sit with loved ones – be it friends, family or romantic partner – and enjoy freshly prepared cuisine made by renowned European Chef Imi Kun.
“He is so passionate about his food,” Hansen said of Chef Imi.
Guests will get a healthy meal and an unrushed atmosphere to spend time fully satiating themselves in delicious food and good company.
And all of it is accomplished through the friendly and accommodating staff at Green Valley Spa.
The staff at Green Valley Spa is pooled largely from the Southern Utah community, Hansen said, where western hospitality still exists untainted from the hustle and bustle of the urban world. Kind and compassionate people, he called them.
At Green Valley Spa it could be said that the staff is not looking for a handout but rather a way to lend a helping hand.
By the time guests depart, Hansen said, they are hugging the staff as if they were old friends or family.
“I am passionate about this place because of the people who work here and the inspiration they provide our guests,” Hansen said.
But what truly sets Green Valley Spa apart as a great getaway is its ability to go beyond an ordinary destination vacation and provide guests a space to shed their worries and find themselves more whole and more healed again.
“We like to say that this is not your average spa,” Hansen said.
It is not; it is a healing center.
The Good Medicine Natural Healing Center at Green Valley Spa offers a full menu of traditional massages and other spa treatments but it also has approximately 50 types of specialty treatments that concentrate solely on healing the mind, the body and the spirit, many of which were developed by the trained and professional staff at Green Valley Spa.
The healing center’s philosophy states:
Our treatment center is a haven free of the worrisome decisions and admonitions that plague us all in today’s uncertain world. So whenever you find yourself feeling listless and tired, overworked, maybe even a little out of sorts — come and be our guest. Here we provide a place where you can leave behind the hustle and bustle of every day life and simply rest. As the muscles and mind take a vacation, you will move into a quiet place within where resolution and peace come directly from the heart.
It is a philosophy that Hansen said he has come to understand firsthand.
“I suffered PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) myself,” Hansen said, “and if it wasn’t for this place and the caring staff that helped me through it, I probably wouldn’t be here because I was losing my mind.”
A combination of healing treatments and classes, including tai chi, along with the caring staff, helped Hansen find a path to better body, mind and spiritual healing, he said.
Green Valley Spa offers a variety of room stays and vacation packages. The resort also has accommodations for business conferences, destination weddings and holiday parties.
