CEDAR CITY — Iron County Emergency Management is offering a CERT Basic Training Course beginning Friday from 6-10 p.m. at Festival Hall located at 105 N. 100 East in Cedar City.

The cost of the course is $25 and is open to the public.

Applications and the complete training dates are available on the Iron County website, or, those interested may pick up an application at the Visitors Center located at 581 N. Main Street in Cedar City.

Community Emergency Response Team training is a Federal Emergency Management Agency program that educates citizens about the hazards they face in their community and trains them in lifesaving skills. If needed following a disaster, these citizen-responders use their training as part of a neighborhood or workplace team to help others when professional responders are overwhelmed or not immediately available.

CERT members provide immediate assistance to victims in their area, organize spontaneous volunteers who have not had the training, and collect disaster intelligence that will assist professional responders with prioritization and allocation of resources when they arrive.

Questions can be directed to John Higley at 435-865-5332 or [email protected].
