Dixie State hosts poetry reading with Simeon Berry

ST. GEORGE — Dixie State University will host nationally recognized poet Simeon Berry as he visits campus to participate in a poetry reading and book signing.

The reading and signing is set to take place from 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 3, in the Boeing Auditorium (room 121) of the Ernö and Etel Udvar-Hazy School of Business building on the Dixie State campus. Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

Simeon Berry’s work straddles the line between poetry and prose,” Dr. Cindy King, assistant professor of English within DSU’s creative writing emphasis, said. “It employs everyday speech and experiences to make it very accessible to all audiences. Yet at the same time, his poems dazzle with imagination and a keen sense of observation.”

Berry has served as the associate editor for the literary journal “Ploughshares” and has received a Massachusetts Cultural Council Individual Arts Grant. His works have received many awards, and his first two books, “Ampersand Revisited” and “Monograph,” won the National Poetry Series in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
