ST. GEORGE — Two rollover accidents on state Route 59 in Hildale Tuesday between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. splintered a power pole and caused two people to be taken to the hospital.

“There was a rollover about mile two on (SR) 59,” Colorado City, Arizona, Fire Chief Kevin Barlow said. “They split a power pole in the process; it was still standing, the wires were still intact, but the pole will have to be replaced.”

Barlow said the eastbound vehicle ended up in a field.

“They went through the fence and ended up on their top,” Barlow said.

But that wasn’t the end of it.

“After our first units arrived there,” Barlow continued, “there was still response coming, there was a second accident just barely down the road where somebody coming up on the stopped vehicles didn’t see it until it was too late.”

That westbound vehicle rolled as well.

“So it was kind of collateral damage,” Barlow said. “We witnessed it as we were pulling up.”

The two occupants, a male and a female in the first car were transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George with non-life threatening injuries, Barlow said. The occupant of the second vehicle refused transport to the hospital.

Barlow said he was not informed regarding citations issued in either incident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
