ST. GEORGE — Outlier Conference Series is hosting a three-day conference dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and business owners learn how to start, grow and scale their business. The conference, called “Founders Weekend” will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Electric Theater located at 68 E. Tabernacle St. in St. George.

“Founders Weekend” is being billed as one of the biggest entrepreneurial conferences in Southern Utah. The conference will feature breakout sessions, workshops and panel discussions with business industry and civic leaders. A full schedule of the conference and a list of speakers can be found here.

There will also be a pitch competition which will allow teams to present their business ideas in an environment much like the reality television show “Shark Tank,” said Holly Gardner, marketer for “Founders Weekend.”

Ever Gonzalez, CEO of Outlier HQ, said this of the conference:

It’s called ‘Founders Weekend’ because it is dedicated to entrepreneurs who are thinking about starting or have already founded a company. Outlier wants to provide them a platform via ‘Founders Weekend’ to be able to engage with several other founders doing amazing things throughout the United States. When founders of several different companies from several different locations get together, amazing things happen.

The conference will also host a group of budding entrepreneurs from Mr. Ethan Deceuster’s fifth-grade class, Gardner said. The students have been learning the ins and outs of purchasing and running their own businesses. The students have applied for their own business licenses, learned how to pay taxes, sell items and create a website, Garnder said.

The students will attend the keynote speech of Peter Horan of Horan Media Tech Advisors, Gardner said.

“Founders Weekend” is set to be a great event for entrepreneurial-minded people who are looking to start or grow their business, Gardner said. It is a great opportunity whether the business be small, medium or large.

The conference starts Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and will continue through Saturday at 6 p.m. Registration is $99 and can be done online or at the door on Thursday. Discounts for students and military personnel are available.

“Founders are those that take a stance. They place their flag. They take measurable risk to get a bigger result. They don’t follow the status quo, ” Justin Jenkins, of Se7en Creative, said of why it’s called “Founders Weekend. “Our country is built on founders, people that had the courage to take a chance on freedom and our free enterprise.”
