”Fore’ the Kids Classic’ golf tournament benefits Washington County classroom grants

ST. GEORGE — The Washington County School District Foundation, the fundraising arm of the school district, is inviting all golfers and supporters of education to tee off in the “‘Fore’ the Kids Classic” charity golf tournament Sept. 30 at Coral Canyon Golf Course.

Money raised from the tournament will go directly to support the foundation’s classroom grant program, which directly benefits teachers and students by funding small grants that make a big impact.

“Our foundation board took upon themselves to try to find out the best way that we could reach the most kids,” Pam Graf, Washington County School District Foundation director, said. “What we have come up with is to help the teachers so that they can teach the kids special projects. We opened up a classroom grant program so the teachers can apply for grants.”

Teachers can apply for up to $500 which can be used toward books, project supplies or whatever need they identify in their classrooms to be able to help their students learn and participate in school.

Last year, between the ‘Fore’ the Kids Classic tournament and the “Spookytown Fair,” the foundation was able to fund all of the grants, Graf said.

It is a program that has been very successful in the school district so far and one that will have a lasting impact on the community, foundation board member Tyler Todd said.

“This is a community project,” Todd said.

The ‘Fore’ the Kids Classic is a four-person team scramble. Included in the tournament fee is breakfast, lunch, golf, opportunities for great prizes – including a trip to Disneyland – and a swag bag worth over $300, said Vasu Mudliar, chairman of the golf tournament.

Most of the prizes have been donated by generous sponsors who share in the goal of helping the students of Washington County, Todd said. Money raised beyond the cost of the event will go directly toward funding the classroom grants.

Team spots are still available, Graf said, but the tournament has sold out the past two years, so interested teams should register soon.

For those who don’t want to golf but still want to be involved, there are sponsorships available as well.

For more information about becoming a sponsor or to register, call Graf at 435-986-5161. Registration can also be done at the Washington County School District offices located at 121 W. Tabernacle in St. George.
