“Earlier today at 1:55 (p.m.) we got called on a report of a … personal injury crash out here at 2000 West State,” Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said.

Officers found two vehicles involved, a 2004 Dodge Durango SUV and a 2013 Toyota Prius.

The Dodge Durango was driven by a 16-year-old female. She was southbound on 2000 West when she stopped at State Street to make a left turn. She failed to yield to the westbound Prius. The Prius pulled to the left, attempting to avoid the SUV, but clipped the corner of the Durango, tipping the Prius and sending it sliding on its left side.

Bystanders were able to rush out and right the Prius back on its wheels. The 37-year-old male driver of the Prius sustained minor injuries in the collision and was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George by Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue ambulance.

Neither the driver of the Dodge Durango nor her 15-year-old passenger were injured. All involved were wearing seat belts. Traffic was reduced to one lane in both directions for 30 minutes while emergency crews cleared the scene.

The Prius was towed from the scene. The Durango was driven away and its driver received a citation for failure to yield.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
