Arbor View, from the Las Vegas area, was in town this weekend and played well enough to beat Snow Canyon Friday night and earn a draw with Desert Hills Saturday morning at Thunder Stadium. Meanwhile, Dixie and Canyon View finished a game that was suspended due to lightning a couple of weeks ago with the Flyers taking the win. The Hurricane Tigers were also in action, dropping a heartbreaker at Stansbury.

Here’s a look at the action:

Dixie 2, Canyon View 0

The Lady Flyers dominated the pitch, but struggled to find the back of the net.

dixie-logo“We pretty much outplayed them, but just didn’t make our shots,” said Dixie coach Burt Myers. “We were rushing things. We want to play fast, but not too fast.”

The game, which was started a couple of weeks ago, but lasted just seven minutes before lightning halted things, was started at the 33-minute mark of the first half. Dixie grabbed the lead on an unassisted goal by McKenna McCallister, who won the ball from a defender and then skipped one across the artificial turf and past the Falcons keeper.

It stayed at 1-0 until about midway through the second half, when Dixie was able to blast home an insurance goal. Elizabeth Durrant received a nice through pass from Delaney Story and hammered home a shot from about 18-yards out and over the keeper.

Three minutes later, Canyon View got its best chance, but Dixie keeper Mashaun Estridge came out and made a nice sliding tackle to preserve the shutout, her third of the season.

“She’s just a sophomore, but she is a great goalkeeper,” Myers said. “She practices really hard.”

Dixie, 4-0-0, will start region play with a home match vs. Hurricane Wednesday night at Walt Brooks Stadium.

Desert Hills 1, Arbor View 1 (F/2 OT)

This defensive struggle went the extra two periods, but remained 1-1 and a draw was called between the Thunder and the nationally-ranked Lady Aggies.

desert-hills-logoDrew Morby struck first for the Lady Thunder, but Arbor View responded before halftime and the game went to intermission tied at 1-1.

Neither team could muster much offense in the second half or the overtimes.

For Morby, it was her second goal of the season and the fourth of her varsity career.

Brittany Moore played well in goal for Desert Hills, which went to 3-1-2 on the season. The next action for Desert Hills is the region-opener at Hurricane on Sept. 6. The Lady Thunder went 7-2-1 and won Region 9 in 2015, advancing as far as the state semifinals.

Stansbury 1, Hurricane 0

The Lady Stallions scored early, but that’s all they would get as the Hurricane defense stiffened.

Hurricane, 4-2-0, begins region play Wednesday at Dixie, start time scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Arbor View 4, Snow Canyon 0 (Friday night)

The Lady Warriors peppered the goal with 11 shots, but just couldn’t slide one past Hayley Niemann, the Lady Aggies goalkeeper.

snow-canyon-logoNiemann had five saves in the game and recorded the shutout. Sierra Vicente had a goal and two assists for AVHS, which is a nationally-ranked (No. 21) team from the Vegas area.

Snow Canyon, 2-3-1, plays a non-region game at Canyon View Tuesday afternoon (4 p.m.).
