ST. GEORGE — A 21-year-old park employee has fallen to her death in Yellowstone National Park early Friday morning, park officials said.
According to the park’s public affairs office, Estefania Liset Mosquera Alcivar died during a social gathering with colleagues.
Alcivar, a concession employee, was with a small group of co-workers at the rim of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone shortly after 3:15 a.m. when she fell, colleagues who witnessed the fall and called 911 for help said.
Park Rangers and paramedics responded and determined the fall was not survivable, the statement said, and finally located the woman’s body four hours later after searching the area in a helicopter.
Yellowstone National Park has 2,600 seasonal positions, and Alcivar was part of the parks Work and Travel Program, an international student program that employs qualifying applicants with seasonal positions, according to information obtained on the program’s website.
The incident remains under investigation.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
