SALT LAKE CITY – It took a little while for the Pine View offense to get going, but while it was feeling its oats, the Panther defense was on fire Friday night in a 34-7 win at Judge Memorial’s Bulldog Stadium.
The Panther defense was dominant as it kept the home team out of the end zone. Judge Memorial’s sole touchdown came on special teams – a kickoff return in the fourth quarter.
Pine View’s offense finally exploded in the fourth as the Panthers put a close game out of reach with three touchdowns. The defense helped the cause with a 34-yard fumble return by D’Angelo Mpungi.
Quarterback Ryan Javines, making his first varsity start, threw for three touchdowns. He connected with receivers Hudson Reed and Zach Spendlove and another to running back Kawika Santiago. Santiago also got a touchdown on the ground.
Pine View rounded out the scoring with two early field goals from kicker Connor Brooksby.
The defense was the story though, as Pine View forced four turnovers – two fumbles and two interceptions, and continually put its offense in good field position. Outside linebacker Dillan Robertson forced both of the fumbles for Pine View.
The Panthers, 1-0, return home next Friday to face Uintah, which just edged Snow Canyon, 25-23, Friday night in what should be a good measuring stick for the two teams.
