David “Clare” Clarence Cannon

January 24, 1935 — August 14, 2016

David “Clare” Clarence Cannon, 81, passed away Aug. 14, 2016. He was born Jan. 24, 1935, in St. George, Utah, to Clarence Mosley and Rosalind Miller Cannon. He married Rosamond Sadie Averett on March 22, 1958, in St. George, Utah.

He grew up in St. George (sandtown) hiking the Red Hills and swimming in the ponds. He attended local schools and graduated from Dixie High. He spent a lot of his younger years in Gunlock with Rod Leavitt where he wrangled and guided for many deer hunters from many states. One of his first jobs was Park Cox Trucking. He worked for Milne Trucklines for 18 years and belonged to the Teamsters Union.

After Milne closed, Clare finished out his retirement with Frehner Construction in Nevada. He loved the outdoors, looking for arrowheads and pine nut hunting. He had a love of music and a beautiful singing voice. He was a member of the Elks for almost 60 years. He loved solving the world’s problems with his coffee buddies through the years and had a lot of good conversations.

He was very proud of his family genealogy and loved local history. His family was very important to him. He had a great memory for facts, his knowledge will be greatly missed.

Clare is survived by his wife, Rosie; children: Troy David (Shelly), Terri Dawn (Greg) Mickelson; daughter-in-law, Arlene Cannon; brother, Paige (Afton); sisters-in-law: Beverly Cannon and Anna Faulkner; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, with two on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Tracy Dee; brother Albert; and sister Karen Frei.

The family wishes to thank the great staff at Dixie Regional Medical Center ICU and our many friends and family for their love and support.
