CEDAR CITY — A car veered off the road and into an electrical switch box at Southern Utah University in Cedar City Monday morning, causing areas of the campus to lose power.
SUU spokesman Tommy Gugino said the incident happened about 10:50 a.m. Monday when a car crashed into an electrical distribution switch between the university’s music building and Gerald R. Sherratt library on 200 South.
The car was not being driven by a student, Gugino said. It demolished the switch and cut power to isolated areas of the campus.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, SUU Police Chief Rick Brown said. The full extent of damages will not be known until the car is removed from the crash site.
No injuries were reported.
SUU facilities management department is working to reroute power to the affected areas. Several buildings are operating on generator power as of 1:30 p.m.
