ST. GEORGE – Baseball in the heat can be a challenge, but the St. George Sentinels are making it work. The local American Legion team captured a 4-2 win over Snow Canyon Saturday in the consolation game of the St. George Summer Classic. The Sentinels went 3-1 in the tournament.

legionlogoCoach Shane Johanson said he was happy with his team’s effort over the tourney, which included wins over Cedar (on a Tobie Swenson no hitter), Idaho Falls and Snow Canyon.

The only loss in the Classic was a 2-0 decision to Cache Valley, despite a great pitching performance by Brooks Barney, who allowed just one earned run in the complete-game 2-0 loss Thursday.

The Sentinels are 13-4 on the season and are leading the newly created Utah Southern League with a 4-0 record.

St. George plays Helper Tuesday night in Beaver before departing for the USA Premier Firecracker Tournament in Southern California over the Fourth of July week.
