ST. GEORGE — Smoke coming from one of the rooms at Red Cliffs Health and Rehab prompted a partial evacuation of the building Monday as fire crews investigated.

St. George Fire Battalion Chief Robert Hooper said the Fire Department was paged out about noon on reports of a fire alarm at the building’s east side. Almost immediately after that, a call came in to the St. George Communications Center.

“We got a 911 call that came in that said there was actually smoke showing in the building,” Hooper said. “At that point, we did a page for our stations.”

The smoke was found to be coming from an individual air conditioning unit in one of the rooms.

Fire personnel partially evacuated the building as a precaution. No damage was reported other than to the air conditioning unit’s motor, which had burned out.

Three engines, 15 firefighters, St. George Police Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
