WASHINGTON CITY — A woman appeared to be in fairly good spirits Friday after being struck by a car in a grocery store parking lot, spilling milk on the car and all over the road.
The woman was leaving Albertsons with her groceries in hand at around 12:40 p.m. when she was struck by a man driving a gold Hyundai in the parking lot crosswalk, Washington City Police spokesman Ed Kantor said.
“He was maneuvering in and out of the parking lanes looking for a parking spot and just did not see her and bumped into her, obviously, at very slow speed so there was not injury,” Kantor said.
While the woman suffered minor scrapes and bruises during the incident, the same could not be said for the groceries or the Hyundai. Spilled milk could be seen spread across the crosswalk and dripping down the windshield of the newly-dented Hyundai.
Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene and the woman climbed inside the ambulance to be checked out by medical personnel as a precaution, Kantor said, but declined transport to the hospital.
No citations were issued, Kantor said, since police officers don’t enforce traffic law on private property.
“Obviously, if it was a public street with a pedestrian in a crosswalk, pedestrians always have the right of way,” he said, “However, on private property, that law doesn’t apply.”
Kantor said pedestrians need to be as equally careful in parking lots as they would in the crosswalk on a street.
“The best advice to pedestrians,” he said, “is don’t assume that everybody is going to see you.”
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

I do not blame the man drivin’ the Hyundai. In this day and age, it’s very important for all of us to find the parking spot nearest the entrance to any store. Why tax ourselves? 😉
I agree the closer the parking the better. It’s very important to make eye contact with the driver before walking into the parking lot. It’s difficult for a driver to get that parking spot and pay attention to people walking ?
Then follow ladybug bug home and fill car her full of rabid squirrels …lmao that was cool ladybug. Ya want me to bring ya back some leftover marshmellows from the fire ? LOL !

Not sure about stalked, Dot. A few maxims come to mind having to do with a pot and a kettle black, dishing it out and taking it. Perhaps there are some of you who might reconsider some of your banter, recraft it for the benefit of the conversations as a whole? There’s a thought.

I wasn’t serious because I know deep down inside he likes me
no traffic enforcement on private property, yet they will cite parking violations there. doesn’t seem logical. traffic enforcement=NO! parking enforcement=SURE.
There is something obviously wrong here, so the way I am reading this, I can hit someone with my car in the cross walk and I will not get a ticket because this is private property?
This lady needs to find a lawyer real fast. because driver might press charges for denting his car, with these hicksville law enforcement around here.
Yep, go ahead and hit a few people on private property. You won’t get a ticket but you will have to pay. Make sure you don’t have any warrants because I’m pretty sure they would arrest you even tho you are on private property
That idiot drives like a complete fool in that parking lot, it is like his own private race course. It is only a matter of time until he really hurts someone !
