ST. GEORGE – Failure to yield resulted in a collision Monday morning that slowed traffic on River Road for approximately 45 minutes.

The crash happened at approximately 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of River Road and Riverside Drive in St. George.

A 2003 Toyota sedan traveling north on River Road was in the left-turn lane preparing to turn. At the same time, a white 2006 GMC Sierra was heading south on River Road.

“The northbound/southbound signal was green,” St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said. “The Toyota turned left in front of the GMC and caused the collision.”

The driver of the Toyota was cited for failure to yield.

Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seatbelt, Trombley said, but a female passenger in the Toyota was having trouble breathing after the crash and was transported to the Dixie Regional Medical Center.

The Toyota sustained heavy damage to the passenger side, and one door was torn off in the crash. The GMC had front-end damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

St. George Fire Department, St. George Police Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the accident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
