Shirley Lorraine Whipple

January 26, 1931 — June 6, 2016

Shirley Lorraine Whipple, 85, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2016. She was born January 26, 1931, in Rupert, Idaho to Franklin and Edith Cottom Jenkins. She was later adopted by and sealed to Orval Vroman. She married John Lester Whipple on November 11, 1949 in Moses Lake, Washington. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. John and Shirley were the parents of two children, Teresa Colleen and Jeffrey Wayne.

Shirley’s family moved around a bit, but she spent most of her youth in northern California. She graduated from Sequoia Union High School and briefly attended San Jose State College. After she and John were married they lived in Washington, California and Wyoming before settling in Boulder City, Nevada, where she lived more than 40 years. When her health began to fail she moved to St. George, Utah to be closer to her son.

Shirley was an avid reader and could often be found reading far into the night. She was a talented seamstress and delighted in making clothing. She loved to create beautiful things and her needlework creations will forever be cherished by her family. She enjoyed family history work and served many hours helping others with their research. She especially treasured the opportunity she had to serve in the Las Vegas Temple.

Shirley is survived by her son, Jeff (Robyn) Whipple of St. George, Utah and daughter, Teresa Dodd of Provo, Utah; 8 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister, her husband and one grandchild.
