Dorothy UrieNov. 16, 1927 — May 23, 2016

Our wonderful mother, grandmother and friend Dorothy Secrist Urie, age 88, passed away on May 23, in West Valley City, Utah. She was born on Nov. 16, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Clifford Moroni and Deseret Lorenta Williams Secrist.

Dorothy attended Branch Agriculture College, now SUU. She had many jobs throughout her life working at State Bank, as a Wal-Mart greeter and as a reading Grandmother at East Elementary. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she enjoyed being a Relief Society teacher and working in the library.

Dorothy loved baking, bowling, Adagio Dancing and growing beautiful flowers in her yard. She enjoyed going to the temple and to the mountains with family and friends. She was a member and a past President of L.O.E. Dorothy always looked nice and neat! She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was very proud of all of them.

Dorothy is survived by her children Donna Urie of South Jordan, Utah; D. Ray (Becki) Urie of Ryndon, Nevada; Russell (Michelle) Urie of Carlin, Nevada; and daughter-in-law Ellen Urie of Cedar City, Utah; along with eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Secrist and Dessie Buffington; her son Dale Urie; daughter-in-law Carmen Riccardi; brothers Harold, Ralph and Dale Secrist; and sister Betty Macfarlane.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Stake Center, 155 E 400 South, Cedar City, Utah.
  • A viewing will be held at Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 N. 300 West, Cedar City, Utah, on Tuesday evening May 31, from 6-7 p.m.
  • A viewing will be held at the Stake Center on Wednesday morning, June 1, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
  • Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Southern Utah Mortuary.
