ST. GEORGE — A man and woman were criminally charged in Mesquite, Nevada, Sunday following a domestic disturbance which ended with the woman being shot in the foot with a handgun.
An investigation into the incident revealed the man, identified as Matthew Adamson, and woman, identified as Brooke Smither, were in an argument, the Mesquite Police Department said in a media statement Monday.
The argument escalated into the two assaulting each other, according to the Police Department.
“Eventually,” police said, “the male retrieved a handgun and shot the female in the foot.”
Smither was transported by private vehicle to Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite to receive treatment for her injury, according to the Mesquite Police Department.
Adamson was subsequently arrested and charged with felony domestic battery with a deadly weapon, authorities said, along with felony discharging a firearm into an occupied structure.
Adamson was transported and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on the felony charges.
Authorities said Smither was issued a citation for misdemeanor domestic battery and released from police custody.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
