ST. GEORGE – An 18-year-old woman was transported to the hospital by ambulance Thursday afternoon after being injured in a collision which was reportedly caused by her running a stop sign.

At about 3 p.m., a woman was driving a 1998 Honda Civic east on 300 South Street, St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said, when she collided with a 2000 Ford Excursion traveling north on Main Street.

“The driver of the Honda Civic ran a stop sign, causing the accident,” Trombley said, adding that police gave her a citation for not yielding at the stop sign.

The woman injured was not wearing a seat belt, Trombley said. No airbags deployed in either vehicle likely because the vehicles are older.

The Ford Excursion driver was a woman in her mid-30s, Trombley said, and she was able to drive her vehicle from the scene.

The Honda Civic sustained heavy front-end damage and had to be towed.

St. George Police and Fire departments and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the incident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

How does someone miss a stop sign crossing Main Street?

Some people really need to start paying attention. Next time it might be a child crossing the street that gets hit.
