Celebrity golf tournament for junior ROTC; participants welcome

ST. GEORGE — Local Air Force junior ROTC program is holding its fourth annual Dixie Wing Golf Tournament at Sunbrook Golf Club featuring actor Rick Ravanello; “Good 4 Utah’s” Glen Beeby, and record holder Lynn “Capt’n Crush” Ray.

The Dixie Wing Golf Tournament is being hosted by the Air Force junior ROTC Dixie Wing Booster Club Saturday at Sunbrook Golf Club, 2366 W. Sunbrook Drive in St. George. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

All proceeds from the tournament provide funding for summer camps and other events during the year.

A light breakfast will be provided by Chick-fil-A and Lin’s Fresh Market, and an awards luncheon will be hosted following the tournament.

This year’s contest will feature movie and TV star Rick Ravanello, reporter Glen Beeby with “Good 4 Utah” and Lynn “Capt’n Crush” Ray from the Guinness World Book of Records.

Awards will be presented for the first, second, and third place teams, as well as awards for “the longest drive” and other fun awards.

The Air Force junior ROTC program serves cadets in Washington County School District high schools and middle schools, including Tuacahn High School.

Air Force Col. Glenn R. Whicker, who oversees the junior ROTC program, said it inspires patriotism, self-discipline and leadership, retired. It is now in its 10th year in Washington County.

“Ultimately we strive to make better citizens,” he said.

The cost to enter the golf tournament is $150 per person or $500 for a team of four.  Those who don’t golf can contribute by becoming major sponsors – $350 for a hole sponsorship or $500 for a team sponsorship.
