ST. GEORGE — Five fire engines responded Wednesday evening to the report of smoke coming from the roof of the FedEx Office facility in the Red Rocks Commons complex on River Road.
“First law enforcement on scene stated that they had smoke coming from the vents in the building,” St. George Fire Battalion Chief Ken Guard said. “Employees were evacuated, (the) first engine crew arrived within a minute and a half to two minutes later.”
Other engine crews quickly followed, in case the fire would spread to adjoining units.
“When they arrived on scene they saw some light smoke,” Guard said. “Immediately they realized that it wasn’t inside the building, it was on top of the roof at the HVAC. (We) gained access at the rear of the building, got on the roof and found that one unit had burned out.”
Fire crews disconnected the power, turned the breaker off, and told the tenants to notify maintenance.
Five engine companies from the St. George Fire Department, two St. George Police officers, and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
