Charlie Sefita

Charlie Sefita SefitaFebruary 24, 1997 – April 30, 2016

Charlie Sefita passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 30th, 2016, on his mother’s birthday, due to complications from pneumonia and heart failure.

He is the son of Pio Manusamoa Sefita and Tofoipupu Manogi Sefita.  Charlie was born in American Samoa.  He had a large family and loved spending time with them at the beach and riding bikes with his brothers throughout the island.  He was a mischievous child and kept everyone laughing and on their toes.  He had great love for his grandparents who he spent time with when he was young.

Charlie and his family moved to America and settled in Hurricane, Utah, in 2007.  He made friends quickly and the community loved him.  He began playing football and was a dominant force at a young age.

He was stricken with rheumatic fever at the age of 12 and due to complications from this sickness had to have a valve replacement in his heart.

He was bound and determined to play football again, and he did!  The game was his love and his life.  He enjoyed being with his teammates and his coaches. He participated in many other sports and extracurricular activities and was very involved in the community.  He was proud to represent the Red and Black of Hurricane.

Charlie was always the life of the party.  His smile lit up the room and was so contagious.  Everyone wanted to be his friend, and they were.  His “one-liners” kept everyone laughing.  He loved everyone unconditionally and had a BIG HEART.  Ironically it was his big heart that ended his short life.  We know that there was a great reunion with his father who passed away years before.  He will be missed by many but will always be remembered!

He is survived by: his mother: Tofoipupu Monogi Sefita Aloi; his step-father: Taei Taula Aloi; brothers: Fernando, Bill, Alexander, and Faamasino Sefita; his sisters: Ana Sefita Ula (Siegfried Ula) Melisha, Milovale, Jaredlyn, Gordonlyn, Tofoipupu, Steffanie, and Melody Sefita; a niece: Jennaces Giesel Ula; the Yardley family: Ryan, Amy, Weston, Tyson, Kailee, Kelsie, and Kinsley who he lived with for many years.

He was preceded in death by: his father: Pio Manusamoa Sefita; his grandmother: Tinovao Leatupue Sefita and grandfather: Leao Sefita; grandmother: Paese Malo Taituuga Papalii and grandfather: Fia Mauai Papalii.
