“(A) male individual in a white Jeep Cherokee (was) traveling eastbound on Red Hills Parkway,” St. George Police Sgt. Jeff Bahlmann said. “He was traveling at a high rate of speed, witnesses estimate the speed to be 70-75 mph.”

Around 10:30 a.m., the driver was traveling in and out of lanes of travel, passing vehicles at high speed. He lost control of the Jeep on the curve next to the Dixie Rock, also known as the Sugarloaf. The jeep then hit the center median, the police sergeant said, taking out plants, rocks and a boulder before coming to rest on the right shoulder of the westbound lanes.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was the only occupant of the Jeep, Bahlmann said. He was wearing his seat belt and was not transported to the hospital.

Both eastbound and westbound inside lanes on Red Hills Parkway were closed for about 45 minutes while the investigation took place and city street workers cleaned up the debris.

Units from the St. George Police and Fire departments, Gold Cross Ambulance and the City of St. George Streets Department responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
