“An adult female driving a black Toyota SUV was exiting the parking lot at the elementary school,” St. George Police Sgt. Jordan Minnick said. “She stopped, looked, but failed to see an 8-year-old male also trying to cross right there.”

The driver of the Toyota SUV pulled out about 3:30 p.m. and struck the boy and his bicycle, Minnick said, adding it was unclear if the boy was riding the bicycle or walking it.

The boy was checked out by Gold Cross Ambulance paramedics and released to his parents, who said they would be keeping an eye on him and transporting him to the hospital if they felt it was necessary.

Minnick said the driver of the Toyota stopped and cooperated fully with the police investigation. The driver received a citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Units from the St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance paramedics responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
