UPDATE April 9: As of Saturday, the suspect in this report has not been located, Cedar City Police spokesman Jimmy Roden said. The investigation is ongoing and several agencies in the area have assisted the Police Department.

CEDAR CITY — Cedar City residents are being asked by Cedar City Police to be on the alert for a shoeless Caucasian man wearing all black and armed with a knife who ran from police after he was caught in the act of a burglary Friday afternoon.

A female resident who lives on the 300 North block of 800 West came home to find the burglary in progress, said Cedar City Police Public Information Officer Jimmy Roden.

When she arrived home, she found her door open and encountered the man in the process of stealing her belongings, Roden said.

She had enough time to call police, he said, but upon their arrival, the man fled the scene on foot. During the pursuit, the man lost his shoes while running but continued to flee without them.

“They believe they’ve got him contained in a couple of block area,” Roden said. “However, when you’re dealing with houses and structures and yards, it takes some time to search all of that.”

Officers set up a containment area alongside Interstate 15 in the area where they believe the man may be, Roden said. They are using K-9 officers to assist in the search.

Police believe the man is still armed with a knife.

Neighbors in the area were notified through the Everbridge system, Roden said. Everbridge is a system that is similar to reverse 911 but run by a different company.

As of 5:30 p.m., the man was still evading police, Roden said.

Anyone with information that could aid in the capture of the suspect should call Cedar City Police at 435-586-2956.
