Phyllis Elaine Pierson Paul, age 83, passed away on March 30, 2016 in St. George, Utah.  She was born on August 15, 1932, in Ames, Iowa to Dean Raymond Pierson and Charlotte Nachazel Pierson.  She married Wayne Russell Paul on September 3, 1955, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa.  They were sealed in the Los Angeles LDS temple on September 12, 1959.

Phyllis was raised in Ames Iowa where she was a bright light to her family, friends and community.  She worked hard and loved to socialize.  She won an award for excellence in theater participation.  She was on the staff of her high school newspaper and after she graduated became women’s editor of the Ames Daily Tribune where she met Wayne Paul.  He was the retail advertising manager.

In August of 1956, they moved to Redwood City, California where he was an advertising salesman with the Redwood City Tribune.

She loved children.  She taught Lamaze method childbirth classes and was a Le Leche League leader in Orem, Utah in the 1960’s.  She studied herbal remedies and was ahead of her time in many ways. She taught pre-school and wrote poems and stories.  She joined a writer’s club in Logan, Utah where she and Wayne lived until they retired and moved to St. George, Utah.  She was an excellent seamstress like her mother.  She was an artist and loved to paint.  She loved to talk with people and find out their background.  She had a brilliant mind and kind, loving hands.  She was an avid reader and wrote her ideas and impressions in the margins of books.  She always loved to discuss ideas with people.  She was a spiritual person and always had strong faith in God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne R. Paul on December 15, 2001.  She is survived by her seven children:  Venice Allen (Randal), Pierco Paul, Thayna Gonzalez (Peter), Andrew Paul (Jody), Norman Paul (Camille), Louis Paul (Tammy) and Richard Paul (Megan).  She had 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

At her request there will be no formal funeral. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.

I.  We are so grateful to have been with Phyllis on this Earthly journey.  We are happy that she is reunited with Wayne and is whole again.
