Music, merriment, foolery; ‘George, Streetfest’ draws big spring break crowd

ST. GEORGE They came for the music, they came for the food and they came for the fun but no matter the reason, the crowds certainly came out for the April Fool’s edition of “George, Streetfest on Main” Friday night as the monthly nightlife event held in the Historic Downtown district of St. George delivered on the flavor and the tunes.

It may have been April Fool’s day but what was no joke was the plethora of entertainment options to be found from Tabernacle Street all the way to Ancestor Square.

On Main Street, the evening opened up with the 18-piece Dixie Rebel Jazz Band featuring some of the area’s most skilled musicians playing classic jazz and swing tunes as well as popular songs with a jazzy twist.

While things on the main stage got off to a swinging start, over at the jazz garden guests enjoyed wine, beer and tapas to the spunky warbling of Alice “Honey Bea” Ericksen whose sultry voice and sparkling smile set the night on fire.

On Tabernacle Street, DJ Spinz laid down the beats for the youth dance party where kids played carnival-style games and danced to catchy pop tunes.

April’s installment of the street festival saw large crowds from out of town, mostly students and families on spring break, who had heard that Main Street St. George was the place to be.

And the place to be it was, as quality musical acts such as Sala and Edgar, Whiskey Tooth Revival and Wirelefant rounded out a night highlighted by good food, street vendors, artists and plenty of smiling faces.
