Matthew Brigham Young

Matthew YoungJune 5, 1979 — March 22, 2016

The world lost a bright and sensitive soul with the passing of Matthew Brigham Young on March 22, 2016, in St. George, Utah.  Matt was a beloved brother, son and uncle.  He was born on June 5, 1979, in Long Beach, California, and lived there until his teenage years. With his outgoing and charming personality, he made many life-long friends there.  Matt loved to hang out by the ocean: swimming, surfing, and boogey boarding.

When the family moved to Cedar City, Utah, Matt became an avid skate and snow boarder.  He excelled at all sports, loved to target shoot and was an excellent marksman.  Matt graduated from Cedar High School and joined the National Guard.  He later joined the Coast Guard and was stationed in the San Francisco Bay area.  He was very proud of his military service and of surviving two boot camps.  Matt was very interested in the medical field and received his EMT certificate at SUU.

Matt is survived by his father, Mike Young, and step-mother, Liz Young; mother, Barbara Barrick; brother, Jeff Young; sisters, Wendy and Jenni Young; nephew, KC Fuller; and niece, Lilly Jackson.  His loss will be felt throughout our lives.

Although Matt’s life was too short, he made a huge impact on those around him with his wit, quick intelligence, kindness, love of family, and especially his goofy sense of humor. His passing leaves a void that could never be filled by another.Young Matthew
