ST. GEORGE — A fire tore through a Mesquite, Nevada, home on Fairways Drive late Thursday night, destroying the home and three vehicles in its path.

Arriving Mesquite Fire and Rescue crews responding to the blaze found heavy fire with multiple explosions in the garage along with heavy fire in the attic, Fire Chief Kash Christopher said in a media statement Friday.

Fire units were told by neighbors that it was believed the home’s three occupants were still inside.

“An aggressive and quickly mounted attack kept the fire out of the interior of the home,” Christopher said, adding that multiple searches of the residence revealed no victims.

The residents had been awakened by explosions heard coming from the garage, Christopher said, and had self-evacuated out the back of the house.

The initial attack team for the operation consisted of six personnel, according to the media statement.

“To change the operation from an offensive attack to a search and rescue is not easy,” Christopher said, “but we did have two at the door for rapid intervention and two inside for search. Thankfully, the occupants went out the back and took refuge next door.”

Two vehicles in the garage and one vehicle in the driveway were destroyed by the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
