ST. GEORGE – Two Region 9 softball teams were in action Thursday, plus there was one baseball game involving a region team. Dixie lost at home against former Region 9 team Canyon View. The Lady Reds of Cedar traveled to Enterprise, grabbing an easy win. And Cedar’s baseball team also captured a road win at Richfield. Below are the results:
Canyon View 7, Dixie 0
Errors were costly for the Lady Flyers in the shutout loss. Canyon View jumped out early, scoring five runs in the first two innings. The Lady Flyers committed four errors in that time.
Taylor Wheelwright went the distance in the circle for CVHS. Wheelwright and Shontae Clark both had doubles. McKayla Clark hit a home run for Canyon View.
For Dixie, Brittney Grob , Kamryn Jones and Courtney McArthur each went 2 for 3 at the plate. Dixie had runners in scoring position on several occasions, but could not push them across the plate.
“We made several costly mistakes,” said Dixie head coach Dave Demas. “Our errors hurt us early.”
The loss drops the Lady Flyers to 2-11. They will host Snow Canyon on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Cedar 15, Enterprise 0
The Lady Reds compiled 19 hits in the four-inning blowout. Starting pitcher Sage Oldroyd threw a one-hitter in the shutout.
Three of Cedar’s hits were home runs. Sadie Leavitt knocked two over the fence. Hannah Williams got the other.
“We have been hitting the ball well,” said Cedar head coach Chris Weaver. “We can swing it.”
Cedar moves to 5-4. The Lady Reds resume region play next Wednesday when they will host Pine View. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
Baseball
Cedar 6, Richfield 2
Berick Englestead dominated on the mound as the Redmen, picked to finish near the top of Region 9, captured the road win.
Cedar improved to 6-4 overall and has won three games in a row. The Redmen have yet to play a game at home this season and recent snow has made it difficult to even hold practices out of doors.
CHS will play two more road games this weekend with a trip to Parowan Friday, then a game at Westlake and against Uintah on a neutral field in Utah County.
The Redmen have their first home scheduled for next Tuesday with crosstown rival Canyon View (4 p.m.) as their final tune-up before region begins.
