Garland Hirschi

Garland Hirschi youngApril 2, 1926 — March 18, 2016

Friday’s child is loving and giving …. In a rustic wood home in Rockville, Utah, Garland was born on Friday, April 2, 1926, to Rachel DeMille and George D. Hirschi and passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016, in Hurricane, Utah, after a brief illness just a mere two weeks from his 90th birthday.

After finishing school at Hurricane High School, Garland entered the US Army and saw battle during World War II. When Garland returned home, he found the love of his life, Vonda Hardy, in “the wood pile” and they were married in La Verkin, Utah.

Garland is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings. Vonda and Garland raised four children: Emilee Phillabaum (Hurricane), Dan (Jeanne) Hirschi (La Verkin), Brian (Melanie) Hirschi and Paul (Barbara) Hirschi (Cedar City).

Hardworking would describe Garland, maintaining a full time job with the Columbia Iron Mines as well as running heavy equipment while working on the farm in Rockville. After retiring, Vonda and Garland made the farm in Rockville, Utah their permanent home. Garland continued to keep himself busy by raising cattle and hay on the farm; even making himself “semi” famous with recordings of his cow calls.Garland-Hirschi

Garland is survived by his four children, 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren along with his twin sisters, Zelda (Larry) Stott (La Verkin) and Nelda Barker (Wyoming). He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Vonda; his parents and 2 siblings.

The family would like to thank the Hurricane Care Center and Hospice for the loving care that was shown to Garland in the last few weeks of his life.
