ST. GEORGE – With 26 teams from four different states descending on St. George for the March Warmup, local Region 9 teams got some much needed action to prepare them for region play next week. Both Desert Hills and Hurricane swept their games Friday, while Pine View took two out of three. Dixie dropped its three games. Snow Canyon’s game against Richfield was cancelled and had an intrasquad scrimmage in its place. Cedar was the only Region 9 team not in action.

Against Ogden, Sophie Wilcox got the start and pitched a complete game for the win. Twin sisters Shelby and Shyann Reynolds both had multiple hits. Shelby collected two doubles that both hit the fence. Shyann had one that went the distance for her first home run of the year.

The Lady Thunder avenged last year’s loss against Grand.

“They mercy-ruled us last year in this same event,” said Fonnesbeck. “That was certainly in our minds when we played them today.”

St. Clair struck out 13 and allowed only two hits in seven innings to improve to 6-1. Ashlee File hit a three-run shot in the third inning to break the game open. Shelby Reynolds and Wilcox both had multiple hits in the game.
