Boyd Dean Redington, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016. He was born on February 8, 1932 to George Arthur and Lucy Addie Hawes Redington.
Boyd graduated from West Side High School in Oxford, Idaho. He served an LDS mission in the Southwest Indian Mission in April 1951 to 1953, being set apart by Elder Spencer W. Kimball. He honorably served during the Korean War in the U.S. Army Signal Corp in Germany from June, 1953 to April, 1955.
Boyd served in LDS church leadership positions in the Elders Quorum and High Priest Group.
Boyd served on the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Executive Committee, The Community Accountability Board working with parolees and those on probation, volunteered at the Cedar City Heritage Center & Theatre.
He worked for the Utah Highway Patrol as a radio dispatcher. An avid professional photographer, he was the first full-time photographer at SUU taking photos of athletics, theatre events, dance, geology events, political and religious figures from 1968 retiring in 1988. After retiring, he opened Boyd’s Photo Service and operated it for over ten years. He acted in the first “Taming of the Shrew” at the Utah Shakespearean Festival and hosted for an additional 14 years in the Randall L. Jones Theatre. His photography has been shown in Salt Lake City, Park City, St. George, Southern Utah University, and other venues.
Survived by his wife, Pamela Wood Orton Redington, brother John Lee Redington, sons Rocky (Boyd D. II), Paul Everett, LaMonte Talawytewa, and daughter Lucinda Jeanae Woods; step-children Kirk Orton, Kevin Orton, and Camille Woolsey, 33 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers George Ivan Redington, Albert Reid Redington; sisters Clara Bessie Redington Fisher Brown, Verna Lucy Olson; sons Dallen Reid Redington, George Morris Redington Magoolaghan.
Funeral Services
- Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Cedar North Stake Center, 95 North 2125 West, Cedar City, Utah.
- Viewing will be held at Southern Utah Mortuary on Friday, March 18th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at 190 North 300 West, Cedar City, Utah.
- Viewing on Saturday, March 19th will take place at the Stake Center.
- Interment will follow at the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
