ST. GEORGE — Spring softball’s first weekend wrapped up with two local teams getting big sweeps on Saturday. Here’s a look at the action:
Desert Hills 14, Olympus 4
Desert Hills 10, Pleasant Grove 4
The Lady Thunder 10-runned their opponent in the early game this morning. Shelby Reynolds and Sophie Wilcox both hit home runs and had six RBIs between them.
In the second game, Desert Hills beat a very good Pleasant Grove team. Brianna St. Clair pitched a complete game and allowed no earned runs.
Desert Hills moves to 3-2 and will play next against South Summit on Thursday, Mar. 17. The varsity game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Snow Canyon 9, Hunter 2
Snow Canyon 16, Payson 6 (5 innings)
The Lady Warriors stayed undefeated on the young season with a sweep Saturday.
In the opener vs. Hunter, neither team could plate a run in the first three innings. Snow Canyon finally put up six runs in the fourth. The home team added three more in the sixth and seventh innings.
Sonya Hardy led the way for the Lady Warriors, collecting four hits in five at-bats. Madison Mooring and Nikenna Durante both recorded doubles.
In the second game, Snow Canyon actually trailed after the first inning 5-3. But an 8-run second inning propelled the Lady Warriors in front. Heather Prestwich and the SC defense prevented Payson from scoring the last three innings while the Lady Warriors added five more.
Six Warriors recorded multiple hits. Taylor Gunn had a home run and six RBIs. Natalie Gunn had a double and three RBIs.
Prestwich got the wins in both contests. Snow Canyon improves to 4-0-1. The Warriors will host Canyon View on Tuesday, Mar. 15.
Oaks Christian (CA) 12, Dixie 0 (5 innings)
The Lady Flyers were 10-runned by Oaks Christian. The Lady Lions finished their visit to the Beehive state 6-0. Dixie’s result in the late game against North Sanpete was not reported.
Dixie’s next game will be against conference rival Pine View on Tuesday, Mar. 22. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
