Woman killed in ATV accident

ST. GEORGE – An ATV accident west of Bloomington resulted in the death of a 36-year-old woman Thursday evening.

Authorities identified the woman who died as Lenae Smith, of St. George. An online Go Fund Me account has been established to aid the family with funeral expenses.

“We got called out to west of Navajo (Drive), out all the way to the old Apex Mine Road on an injuries call,” St. George Police Sgt. Wade Johnson said. “When we arrived, we found that a female, age 36, had crashed her four-wheeler.”

CPR was being performed on the woman when Johnson arrived. Medical personnel from Gold Cross Ambulance and Life Flight took over CPR when they arrived on scene. Johnson was also involved in performing life-saving measures.

Despite the efforts of all involved, Smith died about 40 minutes later, Johnson said.

Gold Cross Ambulance and Life Flight were eventually released and the St. George Police investigations unit was called in to process the scene.

“We suspect she took a corner too fast and ran off the road,” Johnson said.

Smith’s body was removed from the scene of the accident around 8:45 p.m.

Johnson was unable to offer further details on the incident as it remains under investigation.

Smith was riding with at least one other person on a separate ATV at the time of the accident.

“It’s a terrible tragedy, a terrible situation” Johnson said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Think about all the lives that could be saved by banning ATV’s.
Remember, if we can save even one life, we owe it to the American people for common sense ATV laws.
