ST. GEORGE – A 79-year-old woman who was reported missing Wednesday was located by police shortly before midnight.
The woman was last seen by family members around 7:30 p.m. at a chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Lakespur Road in the Bloomington Hills area. Family told police she had gone to the church for a meeting and hadn’t made it home, St. George Police Capt. Mike Giles said.
Missing since about 9:30 p.m., family members attempted to find the woman first, then contacted the St. George Police Department.
The police began a search, calling in reserve staff to help because of concerns they had about potential hazards in the area, Giles said.
Police also set up an Incident Command post at the LDS chapel to coordinate search efforts.
Police officers spread out and canvassed the area, with some officers going down by the Virgin River.
The woman was eventually located by police around 11:15 p.m. in the area of River Road and Rustic Drive.
The woman was found safe, Giles said, though medical staff were being called in to evaluate her condition and possibly transport her to Dixie Regional Medical Center.
Giles could not comment further concerning the woman’s condition.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
