ST. GEORGE — A garage sale is scheduled Saturday at Pine View High School as part of the “Mr. PVHS” fundraiser to benefit Jaden Gibby, a local 7-year-old boy with spina bifida.
Gibby, a Panorama Elementary School student, has suffered paralysis and other difficulties from the disorder and endured numerous surgeries and procedures to correct various problems associated with it.
The “Mr. PVHS” fundraiser — now in its sixth year — is a “male beauty pageant” where all of the contestants, their fellow club members and volunteers hold different events to raise money and awareness for local families with children incurring major medical expenses. Last year the “Mr. PVHS” pageant raised $14,000 for a local recipient.
According to the Spina Bifida Association, the birth defect occurs when a baby is in the womb and the spinal column does not close completely. The term literally means “split spine.” Everyday in the United States eight babies are born with spina bifida, or a similar birth defect involving the brain and spine, according to the association.
