ST. GEORGE – The annual St. George Mozart Festival will be presented by organist Geoffrey Myers and the Southwest Symphony Strings Saturday in the St. George LDS Tabernacle and Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in St. George.
Both concerts are at 7 p.m. and feature selected music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
In addition to organ and keyboard selections from the Mozart repertoire, the chamber music will showcase the popular “Eine kleine Nachtmusik,” two divertimenti, a rondo, and the minuet from Mozart’s Symphony No. 39.
Representative Mozart music for the organ will be performed by Myers, an accomplished organist and the founder of both the Bach and the Mozart Festivals. He is a popular Southern Utah performer and appears frequently in the St. George Tabernacle Concerts.
The Southwest Symphony Strings was founded by Dr. Norman Fawson and is composed of local musicians. The group performs regularly at many community events.
About Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a true child prodigy, was a prolific Austrian composer who created hundreds of operas, concertos, symphonies, and sonatas which profoundly shaped the worldwide development of classical and everyday music.
Born Jan. 27, 1756, Mozart performed publicly at age 6 throughout Europe. His brilliant career was tragically cut short in death at age 35, leaving a legacy rarely if ever equaled in the history of Western civilization.
