Louise Averett Bird

Louise Bird passed away from complications due to age on February 1, 2016. She was born Helen Louise Averett on February 5, 1927 to Norris and Elva Averett in Springville, Utah.

She graduated from Springville High Schools where she met the love of her life Guy Bird. They were married just weeks before the end of World War II on April 8, 1945 in Springville with the marriage later solemnized in the Manti LDS temple. Louise was active in student government and drama and attended high school during the height of World War II graduating in 1945.

She wrote and had a long distance romance with her airman who was serving on bombers during the war. Louise and Guy started a family and raised seven children as they followed her husband’s career in Mt. Pleasant, Ogden, Cedar City and Santa Clara, Utah.

Louise Bird 1After her youngest graduated from high school, she began a short but rewarding career with Dixie College working in the Financial Aid Office. She loved meeting and helping the students over the years as well as those she worked with. Following Guy’s retirement, they built a new home in Santa Clara and were able to travel and enjoy the retirement they had both worked for. They loved their adopted home of Santa Clara and enjoyed living there for over 35 years. She also served as the First Lady of Santa Clara while Guy was Mayor.

They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary just before Guy passed away in 2012. Louise is survived by one sister, Marie Bird of Orem; her seven children: Lyne (Ed) Peterson of Payson, Jeanne (Ted) Tuttle of St. George, Ann (Todd) Bennett of Payson, Lori (Kevin) Dodge of Cedar City, Elyse (Willard) Perkins of St. George, JoNena (Brent) Rowley of West Jordan and Darin (Lola) Bird of Murray; 19 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services

  • Funeral Services will be held on what would have been her 89th birthday, Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Santa Clara LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, 3040 West Santa Clara Drive, Santa Clara, Utah.
  • Visitations will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Friday, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Chapel.
  • A visitation will also be held in Springville, Utah on  Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Wheeler Mortuary located at 211 East 200 South followed by interment in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
