Just after 8:30 p.m., the driver of a 2006 Dodge Durango was traveling south on SR-191 behind a semi in a “double-lane passing zone,” according to a media statement issued by Utah Highway Patrol Wednesday.

The driver of the Durango went out around the slower-traveling semi to pass near milepost 113 but drifted too far to the left, the UHP report stated, causing the Durango to go into the northbound travel lane and crash head-on with another semi.

The driver of the Durango was killed upon impact, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. A passenger in the Durango was flown to a hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Occupants of the semi received minor injuries as a result of the collision.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
